TVET in an Ageing Society
Experts Meeting Proceedings
What are and will be implications of ageing societies for TVET? The ageing population is a major factor that is transforming societies, including the ways in which work is organised and carried out. This significant, worldwide phenomenon was the subject of an international meeting on “Technical and Vocational Education and Training in an Ageing Society”, which took place in October 2006 in Adelaide, Australia. The meeting was organised jointly by UNESCO-UNEVOC, the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER), Australia, the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET) and the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education CPSC).
TVET experts from Australia, Germany, India, Philippines and South Korea discussed and analysed the various aspects of changing TVET in ageing societies. This publication is the result of the meeting. It contains the presented papers and comments by discussants. What emerges from the papers is a picture of a worldwide trend that touches many aspects of TVET and the labour market, but one which needs to take into account the very different economies and societies of the world.
The papers appearing in this publication will be of interest to TVET policy makers, researchers and practitioners who are beginning to think about the implications of ageing societies for TVET.
