Delegation from Palestine at UNESCO-UNEVOC

UNESCO-UNEVOC welcomed a delegation from Gaza on 16 January 2015. The visit was part of a study tour organized by GIZ for its partner institutions in Gaza to familiarize key TVET actors from Palestine with the German dual vocational education system, and with possibilities of international cooperation in TVET. The study tour took place in the context of the EU-funded programme “Upgrading TVET institutions in line with labour-market needs”.

The delegation consisted of representatives of the Gaza Secondary Vocational Girls' School, the Palestinian Committee for Hotels, Restaurants and Touristic Services, the University College of Applied Sciences, the Chamber of Commerce, the Palestinian Federation of Industries, the Near East Council of Churches, the Agricultural Development Association and Deir El-Balah Technical College.

The aim of the meeting was to strengthen ties between UNESCO-UNEVOC and the TVET community in Palestine, particularly in Gaza. Ways of engaging in joint cooperation were discussed in the context of Palestine’s TVET reform. Katerina Ananiadou, Programme Specialist at UNESCO-UNEVOC, gave an introduction of UNESCO-UNEVOC and the global UNEVOC Network, which is a learning network of vocational education institutions from around the world, and an important feedback system for UNESCO. Her presentation was followed by an introduction into UNESCO-UNEVOC’s online services and publications by Alix Wurdak (Communications and Publications), in particular the e-forum, and how it can be used for engaging with the international vocational education community.
