As part of a TVET study visit to Germany, facilitated by GIZ, UNESCO-UNEVOC welcomed Ms Al Hakimi, Deputy Minister for Girl’s Education Sector and Mr Al-Hussani, Head of Coordination and Follow-up Unit from the Ministry of Education of Yemen. The delegation visited the International Centre to learn more about its work in general, the UNEVOC Network, its online services and recent activities, particularly in the Arab States. Mr Shyamal Majumdar, Head of UNESCO-UNEVOC, welcomed the guests to UNEVOC’s premises in Bonn. During his speech, Mr Majumdar elaborated on the importance of TVET and skills in the post-2015 agenda. In his address, he also pointed out that UNESCO can help Member States to develop and implement TVET systems, policies and training programmes to meet the need of the labour market, through policy reviews, capacity development and the implementation of relevant normative instruments. Mr Majumdar also highlighted the role the Yemen Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training (MOTVET), a UNEVOC Centre, is playing to promote TVET in Yemen.

Following a presentation on the UNEVOC Network and its online resources, the discussions focused on the Ministry’s plan to build a new educational strategy, which will aim to promote TVET and skills to help youth find employment in Yemen.

The meeting was an important step in the development of cooperation between UNESCO-UNEVOC and the Ministry of Education in Yemen.
