Five experts from India visit UNESCO-UNEVOC

UNESCO-UNEVOC welcomed five experts from India to its premises on 5 December 2014. The meeting was an opportunity for an exploratory discussion between UNESCO-UNEVOC and TREC-STEP, a consortium of three institutions from three Indian states:

  • Tiruchirappalli Regional Engineering College – Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park (Tamil Nadu),
  • Vivekananda Institute of Biotechnology, Nimpith (West Bengal), and
  • Maharashtra State Innovation Council in Pune.
The institutions’ collaborative work focuses on empowering marginalized and vulnerable communities such as rural farmers, women and unemployed youth by providing micro-entrepreneurship training in eco-friendly trades such as agricultural biotechnology. Together, the group has already provided skills training to over 3000 individuals.

The visit provided opportunities to learn about each other's initiatives and explore potential collaboration.
