1-2 April 2014, Jakarta, Indonesia
Welcome addresses were given by Mr Thomas Silberhorn, Parliamentary State Secretary of BMZ and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nuh, Minister of Education and Culture, Indonesia. Shyamal Majumdar, Head of UNESCO-UNEVOC, delivered a presentation on “translating standards into training programs”. He spoke about the implementation of TVET reform for social and economic development in light of the dual system approach. The session facilitated the identification of possible areas for cooperation to steer the development of quality standards for TVET. The conference was attended by 200 delegates from various countries in Asia and the Pacific and provided an excellent opportunity for UNESCO-UNEVOC to touch base with network members.
With the growing integration of labour markets in ASEAN and the rising demand for a qualified workforce, the quality of TVET is at the heart of the ASEAN countries’ development agenda. The deliberations during the two-day conference focused on enhancing quality through cooperation with the business community, harmonizing standards and qualifications and on quality measurement instruments.
