Senior Bangladesh Delegation on a TVET Study Tour in Sri Lanka

A bilateral agreement has been signed on 18 April 2011 between the Governments of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in order to share the experience of TVET in Sri Lanka. The initiative was facilitated by TVEC and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skill Development from Sri Lanka and the Directorate of Technical Education from the Bangladesh.

In fulfilling the objectives of the agreement ILO TVET Reform Project of Bangladesh has made a request to the UNEVOC Centre TVEC for a study visit for a senior TVET delegation from Bangladesh in order to study the Sri Lanka Technical and Vocational Education and Training Sector. The visit was held on 17 and 18 July 2014 to benchmark some of the best practices of the Sri Lanka TVET system. The visit was made in parallel with the the International Conference on TVET held on 15 and 16 July 2014 at Galadari Hotel, Colombo.

The delegation was welcomed and facilitated by the Director General of TVEC, Dr. Rasika Perera and discussions were taken place for future partnerships and follow up activities of the MoU signed between two countries. The UNEVOC Centre of TVEC coordinated the visit.

The delegation had the opportunity of visiting National Career Guidance and Information Centre, at “Nipunatha Piyasa”, District Vocational Training Centre, VTA, Narahenpita, Automobile Engineering Training Institute (AETI), NAITA, Orugodawatta. At the TVEC, they were given the opportunity to study Labour Market Information System, Policy and Planning activities, functions of Standards and Accreditation division section, work of the NVQ division, Assessments and Certification unit.

At the end of the visit the Secretary of the Ministry Mr. B Wijerathna and Additional Secretary of the ministry Mr. A.R. Deshapriya met the delegation, where consolidation of TEVT sector activities with the assistance of donor funds and the other future developments were discussed. This visit was coordinated by Mr. Janaka Jayalath, Director/Information Systems of Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka as the Head of UNEVOC Centre Sri Lanka and Southern Asia Cluster Coordinator.
