UNESCO-UNEVOC welcomed Ms Anna Steinkamp of the German National Commission for UNESCO to its offices on 9 March 2015. As Head of the Task Force for the 39th Session of the World Heritage Committee due to take place in Bonn in June 2015, she came to UNESCO-UNEVOC to discuss possible joint interventions.

At the 39th Session, UNESCO-UNEVOC and the German UNESCO Commission aim to draw attention on the role of skills development for the heritage sector, as qualified experts, technicians and skilled labour have a vital role in ensuring that cultural and natural heritage is protected, conserved, presented and rehabilitated. This is articulated in the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.

Mr Majumdar, Head of UNESCO-UNEVOC and Ms Steinkamp discussed the importance of skills development for protecting cultural and natural heritage, and the role of quality TVET for providing heritage skills.

Background

From 28 June to 8 July 2015, the World Heritage Committee will meet for its 39th session in Bonn, Germany. During the session, the Committee will consider requests for the inscription of new sites on UNESCO's World Heritage List and will examine the state of conservation of sites already inscribed on the list. The session is expected to be attended by around 1000 participants.
