UNEVOC in West Africa

Activities

Qualification Frameworks and Competency-based Approaches in TVET - Mobile Training Team of West African UNEVOC Centres in Mauritius, Mauritius, 17-21 June 2007

Sub-regional cooperation in TVET in West Africa

Sub-regional cooperation in TVET in West Africa is particularly important in the areas of school-enterprise relationships, competency-based approaches, diversification of financing and basic transferable skills. This was the outcome of a regional UNEVOC fact-finding workshop that took place in Dakar, Senegal, in May 2002.

The main goal of the workshop was to identify existing sub-regional cooperation in TVET as well as areas of further improvement. The fourteen TVET specialists and representatives of international organisations present at the workshop also defined relations with donors, sufficient qualified trainers and continuing training and upgrading of skills as priority areas.

Existing regional cooperation in TVET consists of staff and student exchanges based on bilateral agreements. In addition, international agencies such as the International Labour Organization (ILO), UNESCO and the Agence intergouvernementale de la Francophonie (AIF) have organized regional meetings on TVET.

In order to determine the participants of the workshop, a call for experts had been launched. About 34 West African TVET experts responded, and their papers were included in the document TVET in West Africa - Discussion Papers (PDF, 520 KB).
