The Status of TVET

TVET is inferior to Higher Education. That is the image of TVET, almost worldwide. This concern has been discussed in the UNESCO-UNEVOC e-Forum repeatedly (see links below). In a mail sent in January 2008, Julia Schmidt of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training of Germany (http://www.bibb.de), suggested the following:

"In our discussion on "white collar hype vs. professional hip", we have collected quite a number of ideas on how to improve the image, reputation and hence attractivity of TVET. We are all convinced of the latter, but how can we gather our thoughts into one concise document which we could distribute further? I think that would be a great kick-off to making "professional hip" a reality!"
