Type of Institution
NAVTEC is the apex body for the coordination regulation and policy direction for skills development in Pakistan. We are currently (2008) developing a National Skills Strategy which outlines a series of reforms to promote relevant skills for industrial growth, promote equity, access and employability and assure quality. Work on some inititatives such as developing competency standards and sector specific Centres of Excellence has already started. Through a special programme, Prime Minister's Special Inititative, NAVTEC also sponsors short-term, demand driven training in emerging fields where training does not exist or is limited in the public sector, and to target certain sectors such as geographically disadvantaged populations.
