UNEVOC Network Meeting on TVET for SD

To make sustainable development a priority in TVET, change needs to happen on many levels. This was the conclusion of a UNEVOC Network meeting that took place in Bonn, Germany, on 29 October 2004. At the meeting, representatives from UNEVOC Centres from around the world discussed measures to put sustainable development on national TVET agendas.

In many countries, sustainable development is not yet a major consideration in the planning and implementation of TVET. Participants stressed that a change in attitudes can only occur with the active participation of all members of society in general and TVET policy-makers and practitioners in particular.

They also developed ideas for contributions of UNEVOC Centres to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. They elaborated individual project proposals for co-operation among UNEVOC Centres in the following areas:

  • Legislation and political mobilization,
  • Human resources development and
  • Curriculum development and research.
